More Visitors

All of the prayers are working. Mom is still doing great. Other than naps every day, there are no signs of trouble.

Roni, Jim and Jacob all came to visit last week. We had a nice time...mostly just enjoying the bird watching on Mom's patio. We had an early St. Patrick's Day dinner since they were here.

I finally got my camera photos downloaded, so here's a picture from Mary's visit too.

Still doing well...

Mom went to the Santa Monica Farmers' Market on the 9th and was still able to get around...just a little slower. Matt and Erica joined us there.

Saturday the 16th, Mom's cousins Joe and Linda came up from Orange County for a visit.

She's keeping busy and still says she feels fine. In fact, she doesn't think the nurse needs to come every week. (We're trying to change her mind.)

Roni and Mary visit

Mary came to visit Jan. 23rd to the 27th. Roni came out on the 27th and left on Feb. 2. They mostly hung out with Mom and the rest of us tried to visit with them when we could. Mom is doing much better...sleeping better and able to get around without trouble. She is calling me (Pattie) every day in the morning so we won't worry. We all visit every weekend and one of us is going to visit when the nurses come on Thursdays. Mom drove herself to Mass this morning (Ash Wednesday) and says everything went fine.

Finally...a new post

Sorry for the delays with this post.
Mom has been busy!
The beginning of October we (Mom, Eileen, Kathi and Pattie) went to Yosemite. It was beautiful. A few weeks later we (Mom, Roni, Eileen, Kathi and Pattie) visited all the Massachusetts' relatives. (Well, as many as we could. There are a lot of them!) We (Mom, Roni, Kathi and Pattie) went to Augusta, GA next. There we visited Roni's son Sean, his wife Megan and their daughter IVY! (Mom's great grandchild.) She's so great!
November and December we were busy with Thanksgiving and Christmas, both of which were wonderful.
Sean, Megan and Ivy visited California around the tenth of January. We had a great time hanging out with Ivy again.
Mom had a bladder infection last weekend that threw us all for a loop. She's back in fighting form now, but we will be getting hospice visits once a week now so we can monitor it better.

Hospice

Mom signed up for Hospice last Saturday. She is still doing well, but we wanted to get everything started. A nurse will come to the house every 2 weeks to start and will come as often as twice a week when necessary. They provide comfort care (drugs, oxygen and any necessary equipment including a wheel chair, walker or even a hospital bed). The woman on Saturday was really nice and Mom has already met a nurse and a social worker...both of whom she said were nice.
Eileen, Kathi and I are taking Mom to Yosemite 9/30 to 10/3. We're all going to Boston (plus Roni) after that. The tentative plans are John and Peggy's Oct 11-14, then the cape (Joe and Gerry) Oct 15th. The 16th we all fly to Augusta to see Ivy! Oh, and her parents (Sean and Megan) too.
Can't wait to see everyone.

Sept 5th Appointment results

Mom and Eileen saw Dr. Wang on Sept. 5th. The blood work shows improvement with her liver function numbers. The CT scan shows the lesions on the liver are bigger but the lesions on the lungs are smaller.

Mom is much better since she stopped taking the Nexavar. Her appetite is back and she feels like herself again. She has decided, with the doctor's approval, not to restart the Nexavar.

We will have Uncle Rich, Aunt Judy and Aunt Alice in town next week. Yosemite the first few days of October and hopefully Boston and Augusta, GA a week or so after that.

August 15th Appointment with Dr. Wang

Mom's visit to Dr Wang on Wed, August 15th (with Eileen)

Results from the blood work show that Mom's liver function numbers are out of range. This is a new development. Dr Wang feels the Nexavar may be to blame since the values changed so dramatically since the last time. He has taken her off the Nexavar for now and has ordered a new CT Scan so we can compare the liver to the original scan.
Mom's appetite had diminished which can lead to her feeling really tired. Her blood pressure is now too low so DR Wang lowered the dose of her blood pressure medicine back to the previous level.

We are hoping to get the CT scheduled right away and return to Dr Wang on Sept. 5th at 330pm

Kathi took Mom to KC from Aug 16th through Aug 20th to visit the family there. They had a great time. Spoke to Mom when she got back and she is feeling better. She has her appetite back!
